Air Attack (also called "Bird Dog" or "Lead Plane") aircraft are flown by a specially trained Air Spray pilot who is accompanied by one or more air attack officers who direct how and where our Airtanker aircraft should drop their load of fire retardant. Bird dog aircraft fly above other aircraft working on the fire, allowing the air attack officer to observe them. Air Spray's air attack aircraft are equipped with advanced radio systems and high-tech imaging devices to identify areas where a retardant drop is needed to most effectively control the forest fire.

Air Spray relies on the Turbo Commander 690 for the majority of our air attack operations. The Turbo Commander's long fuel endurance, speed, exceptional visibility and proven safety record make it the perfect aircraft for air attack.
The Turbo Commander aircraft provides the pilot with the performance necessary to operate in tandem with the fastest air tanks, both in terms of cruise and in the event of a fire. In addition, the exceptional visibility characteristics of the Turbo Commander 690 make it perfect for bird dog operations even in the most severe fire situations. Aircraft Features:

The Gulfstream Jet Prop Commander 1000 (AC-695A) is a high-wing, pressurized, twin-engine turboprop aircraft that is an exceptionally well-performing variant of the Birddog aircraft. The Commander 1000 is virtually identical to the Turbo Commander 690, except for three key differences that offer superior performance compared to the TC 690:
